Can you tell a story in 6 seconds?
We’ve learned to regale an audience in 140 characters and to catch someone’s eye with one wordless photo. Being relevant online is important in this new age of marketing, with social media being our new frontier. What was once a space for chat rooms, forums and basic sites for bands to share their music, social media has transformed into being where people find community. It is our community. It is where we talk, share, shop and learn.
Businesses have found that being ahead of the curve with social media is a vital practice for reach and growth. Having a Facebook page and Twitter account for a company is now basic and expected, with Pinterest, Instagram and Google+ profiles following quickly behind. If a company can be among the first to adopt the newest forms of social media, there is great opportunity for expanding their audience.
So now the newest question on social media fronts begs: Can you tell a story in 6 seconds?
Vine, the newly launched Video app from Twitter, is the newest cowboy on the social media frontier. Much like its 140 character post counter-part, Vine excels at relaying a visual message with brevity and style: in only 6 seconds. These video shorts are the “little windows into the people, settings, ideas and objects that make up your life.”
Businesses have a chance to give customers and fans a fun and informative window into their company. There are many ways brands can use (or are currently using) Vine: creatively sharing a giveaway or introducing members of the company or products. Wheat Thins launched a Twitter campaign during the Superbowl and utilized Vine in promoting the hashtags. Businesses will find new and exciting opportunities with social media marketing by using Vine.
Vine is currently available to download for free on iPhone and iPod touch in the iTunes store.
